Who We Are
As 2014 rolled along, many improvements happened because of you. Whether you volunteered your service or helped with financial contributions, all your efforts and the force of our joined prayers and meditations kept on making a difference.
We’ve been watching the landscape become greener with recent rains, as the mornings become colder and the evenings darker. As we approach the season of Christmas, we remember and are grateful to you, our enthusiastic supporters.
The renovation of our kitchen and refectory is well into the home stretch. This week the new hood for the stoves arrived and the sinks rolled in too.
We would like to give you an update on our solar project, and tell you about another major project that is already underway.
The gift of service to your greater Self comes in many sizes at Hidden Valley Ashram. Guests have the opportunity for both short-term (karma yogi) and long-term (resident) service.
Paramahansa Yogananda said “Chanting is half the battle” in meditation. Does your chanting regularly take you halfway into interiorization? Join us and learn how to chant deeply.
Do you remember the feeling when you first began to meditate? Did everything just seem to flow effortlessly? When meditation begins to take more effort, this is often a sign we are making progress — and that we are ready for renewal.
Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote: The only way to have a fiend is to be one. Our Gurudeva was a divine friend to everyone he met; he remains ever a friend to all — his growing family of friends and disciples.
Gurudeva Paramahansa Yogananda tells us there are two pillars of happiness. The first is the friendship we have with each other. The second is our friendship with God and Guru.
This weekend we’re having a new program entitled Spiritual Life in the Later Years. This will be a program for seasoned yogis, and it has filled up quickly (with a waiting list too!)
January 24th was an auspicious day at Hidden Valley. After planning, design, fundraising, and some layers of approval by the County Building Department, the supports for the first canopy were set into place. The next day brought an inspection and then the concrete trucks arrived to pour the foundation caissons.
Your generous‐hearted contributions have put us over the top of our fund raising goal. Solar energy is projected to lower Hidden
Valleyʹs overall energy costs by an estimated $25‐30,000 each
Our Sun, the Bright Alternative
For millennia, our star has given us light and life.
Now itʹs changing the way we create our electricity.
